An optimally functional and fully staffed Center for Biomedical Informatics that provides a centralized focus for biomedical informatics research, service, planning & coordination efforts at Memphis UTHSC and throughout the UT system.
Our mission is to facilitate innovative biomedical informatics research, big-data epidemiology and health services research across UTHSC in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratorythrough provision of cutting edge clinical research informatics, data management and project consulting services.
The Center for Biomedical Informatics provides the UTHSC research community with customized biomedical and clinical informatics applications to help manage complex translational and clinical research needs. CBMI specializes in three key areas namely:
- Data Management
- Data Storage
- Project Management
Through these key areas of specialty the CBMI bridges technology, computation, clinical/public health research to develop high quality deliverables aimed at improving population health in Memphis and its surrounding areas.
The goals and objectives of the Center for Biomedical Informatics have been developed keeping in mind the growing needs of the UTHSC research community as well as the growing Memphis research space. Not only is the CBMI equipped to handle multiple projects but we have expanded our capabilities in regard to tools, techniques and available storage space for researchers.
Working with the CBMI gives UTHSC researchers access to REDCap system (under license from Vanderbilt University) for small scale projects, surveys and databases and Unity data management system: a fully customizable web-service for data collection.
All databases and projects are maintained at UTHSC in close collaboration with the UTHSC Information Technology Services. All systems used for data handling are HIPAA and FISMA compliant.
